![]() ![]() Metaxas introduces another champion of education, Susanna Wesley. It was fascinating reading about how a celebrity of the 18th century was able to use her power to help those less fortunate, and to speak the gospel, even though it left her open to criticism and hardship. But I will tell you that Hannah More was famous in the late 1700’s as an author and playwright and her works actually outsold Jane Austen’s! She used her status and writing to influence all levels of society she was a passionate advocate for education of girls and the poor and she helped pave the way for the abolition of slavery. I won’t tell you all the details of her fascinating life, I’ll leave you to discover those for yourself. One of the joys of reading “7 Women” has been discovering the wide and long ranging impact women have had on society, motivated by their deep faith in God and the way He used them to speak out. She had such a profound influence on history that it is amazing that she is not better known. ![]() ![]() “Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world” says Percy Bysshe Shelley, and indeed this would be a fitting epitaph for the life of Hannah More who we meet in “7 women”. ![]()

![]() ![]() More important, all but the dad and stepmom are likeable. The characters are well drawn and believable. She initially has a strained relationship with her stepbrother-I loved how that relationship evolved over the course of the book. Just when she thinks maybe a relationship with Jason could be going somewhere, she discovers she has a rare cancer. She’s planning for college, has a great relationship with her mom and a tense relationship with her dad, who remarried a woman Ellie is less than enthused about. One of the improvisers is a guy she’s crushed out over-and at a party she finds out he feels the same way! Life seems good. She does improv competitions with her team against improv teams from other schools. Ellie is a senior in high school who does improv comedy. This is an original novel with a great cast of characters. ![]() ![]() There is a saying that about the connection between humor and pain, and that’s what this book proves: How to find humor from difficult situations. I love books that make me laugh out loud AND cry. ![]()

After buying a Coke in a small store, he starts walking toward La Purisima, and after dark he knocks on the manager's door, only to find that Sr. Through a series of rides, he makes his way beyond Nadadores, out of La Madrid, and into La Vega. Everyone speaks to John Grady as they pass, and, in the evening, workers in a camp invite him to supper. He bathes in an irrigation ditch and starts to walk toward Cuatro Cienagas. ![]() He sleeps on a bench and the next day has a breakfast of coffee and pan dulce before catching two more rides.
