Marko kloos terms of enlistment series5/24/2023 ![]() Fans of classic Military science fiction will find this series a step up from much of the current offerings available in terms quality and enjoyment. One of the highlights of the book is the unique nature of its alien enemy, but the true heart of the novel explores the murkiness of domestic life, with some well drawn internal sociopolitical conflicts giving the tale a multilayered approach. While at times I got a little lost in the extended action scenes, Kloos does a good job, especially on Lines of Departure, setting up intriguing scenarios reminiscent of classic Military science fiction, yet spins it just enough to give it it’s own flavor. The writing is solid, with much less of the pulpy cheese factor of series like BV Larson’s Star Force yet with just as much fun. The Frontline series is basically just what I expected, solid military science fiction with a likable main character. ![]() ![]() Yet, then I realize, Old Man’s War and the Black Jack Geary military SF series are some of my favorites, so why not give it a go. At first glance, Marko Kloos Frontlines series, with books Terms of Enlistment and Lines of Departure seemed like pretty much by the numbers Military Science Fiction in the vein of John Scalzi and Jack Campbell, so I was surprised to see getting such high praise. While checking out the Goodreads and Audible lists, I saw a title I was aware of, but was surprised to see on such lists. ![]() I always find new and interesting books by pursuing the Best of… lists put out by Industry people and bloggers. ![]()

In the center of the room was a butcher-block counter. Beyond that a row of poplar trees formed a bright green windbreak.Ī round oak table and chairs were placed on the opposite side of the room with a view to the east. The window over two extra-deep stainless steel sinks looked over a fenced backyard with grass and flower beds that needed care. Miles of granite counters and oak cabinets lined one side of the room. “You could feed an army from this kitchen,” Sarah commented. Kurt gave Sarah a brief tour of the house, then showed her the very large, modern kitchen. ![]()

The last plantagenets thomas b costain5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() The three famous and sometimes notorious Edwards followed him.Īll four books are welcome additions to my library on English history. ![]() We do find out that much occured in his reign. Compared to the other Henrys he is an obscurity. In Magnificent Century we learn of King Henry III. What was welcome in this particular volume was reopening the case of Richard III guilt or lack of thereof in the death of the princes in the Tower. Costain had his theory as well in the first bookThe Conquering Family. The death/assassination of Thomas a Becket has many speculations. It made me want to do more research on the events in question. Why? these books,of which The Last Plantagenets is the fourth, read more like novels than a dry chronicle of events. I would go so far as using it as an introduction to English history. ![]() Thomas Costain 4 book series on England's Plantagenet Dynasty is a must read for history enthusiasts. ![]()

Fantastic four full circle alex ross5/24/2023 ![]() ![]() Whilst Ross’ dialogue features a bit of that Stan Lee cheesiness, his greatest strength is his hyper-detailed art that evokes the cosmic grandness of Jack Kirby. No doubt that Ben feels like his body is a curse, but he eventually learns to accept and find happiness. ![]() In Full Circle’s opening double page spread, narrator Sue Storm makes the suggestion that Ben is the true victim as he can never escape from his stone exterior. ![]() Like a number of Marvel heroes, the origin story of the Fantastic Four is one of them being victims of their own scientific experiment. ![]()

![]() ![]() Few Italians have the true virtuoso spirit. ![]() ![]() He prided himself on his connoisseurship in wine. He had a weak point - this Fortunato - although in other regards he was a man to be respected and even feared. I continued, as was my wont, to smile in his face, and he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation. It must be understood that neither by word nor deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my good will. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong. A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. I must not only punish but punish with impunity. At length I would be avenged this was a point definitively settled - but the very definitiveness with which it was resolved precluded the idea of risk. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat. The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. ![]()
